Son of Charles William, silk manufacturer, Malmesbury, and Mary J Jupe, of 39 Henleaze Avenue, Westbury. Older brother of Eira G, Frances M, Sylvia S, Alan C, and John B.

 

Jupe was born on 08/02/1890, and attended the School from 1902-1905. He served as a Captain in the Army, with the Devonshire Regiment 8th Bn.. Jupe sadly lost his life on 26/10/1917, as a result of the War.

 

Jupe is remembered on Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium, Panels 38 to 40.

"Cherish the Memory" (BGS Chronicle December 1917)

"was killed in action on October 26th, while leading his company against a strong point which was holding up the advance in an attack. He went to Singapore in 1910, where he joined the Volunteer Artillery, and on the outbreak of war he served the guns in the forts which were keeping a sharp look out for the now historic raider, Emden. By the end of the year, he had arrived in England, and joined the Royal Fusiliers as a private with some of his Colonial friends. He went to France the following year. In the summer of 1916 he was made a second Lieutenant in the Devons, and after serving his regiment in various capacities, he received his captaincy shortly before his death. Writing of him subsequently, one of his fellow officers says: 'We shall always cherish the memory of your son as a good friend and a splendid officer.'"
