Champion, Ivor Edward
Son of Edward Champion, tiller of the soil, and of Martha, of Horse Croft Farm Bratton, Westbury. Older brother to Stanley I, and Maurice R. After the death of Edward Champion, Martha moved to Warren Cottage, Brean, Somerset. Ivor Edward resided at Mr Holmes’ lodgings at Belle Vue Crescent, Clifton during his time at Bristol Grammar School.
Champion was born on 04/02/1876, and attended the School from 1891-1893. He served as a Private in the Army, with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, Otago Regiment, 1st Bn.. Champion sadly lost his life on 27/09/1916, as a result of the War.
Champion is remembered on Caterpillar Valley (New Zealand) Memorial, France.

A Report of His Loss (BGS Chronicle December 1916)

"aged 40, 1891-1893. He was a Mathematical Scholar of the School and served through the South African War. When the War broke out he was in New Zealand, but he passed to the Western Front, where in the late autumn of this year he was killed."
