Son of Benjamin Hall, farmer, and Clara Anne Hall of Fillwood, Bishopsworth. Younger brother of Kate Winifred and Dorothy May. Older brother of Anthony Vivyan and Phillis.

 

Hall was born on 11/03/1893, and attended the School from 1905-1909. He served as a Company Sergeant Major in the Navy, with the Royal Marine, Engineers Division. Hall sadly lost his life on 21/07/1915, as a result of the War.

 

Hall is buried in Lancashire Landing Cemetery, Turkey, grave reference A. 55.

Hall is also remembered in Bishopsworth Churchyard on a family gravestone.

Exhibition Scholarship (BGS Chronicle December 1915)

Quartermaster-Sergeant S.L. Hall, who was serving with the Engineer section of the Royal Naval Division, died as the result of a severe shall wound sustained while on service in the Gallipoli Peninsula. He was at the School from 1905-1909, and rose rapidly to the Lower VI Modern. He went on to Bristol University, and did very well in the Engineering School: later he won the 1851 Exhibition Scholarship of £150 for further study. He impressed everybody who had to do with him with his strong common-sense, his power of judgment, and his marked scientific ability, and his death has cut short a career of much promise.

Hall originally enlisted on 21st September 1914, but was injured and off active service from 1st March 1915 to 28th May 1915. He re-joined his company on 29th May 1915, but died of wounds in 11th Casualty Clearing Station less than two months later.
