Son of Rev. J. Stormont Bell, Clerk in Holy Orders, and Edith Rhoda Bell of 55 Linden Road. Younger brother of Edith N. and older brother of  May Dorothy, and Frederick Donald Linnel.

Bell was born on 24/03/1889, and attended the School from 1901-1905. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army, with the Worcestershire Regiment "B" Coy. 2nd/8th Bn.. Bell sadly lost his life on 02/12/1917, as a result of the War.

 

He is remembered on Cambrai Memorial, Louverval, France, Panel 6.

A Challenge Cup (BGS Chronicle April 1913)

A challenge cup for the Hundred Yards race has been presented to the school by H.S. Bell and his brother, F.D.L. Bell, now in the Lower sixth Modern.  Such gifts are particularly welcome, not merely for their own worth, but as a memorial of the donors.

Career

​

Prior to the War, Bell was working as an accountant. On his death, he left effects of £134 19s. 8d. to his mother. This would be worth approx. £10,600 in 2016.

Memorial Plaque to Harold Bell

​

The Bell brothers from Westbury Park both joined up. Harold joined the Worcestershire Regiment and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant. He was listed as missing in France, possibly a prisoner, on 2 December 1917, but later listed as believed killed, aged 28 years. He has no known grave.
