Son of Albert Thornley Kinsey, Post Office engineer, and Annie Kinsey, of 51 Manor Park Road.

 

Kinsey was born on 26/01/1898, and attended the School from 1910-1916. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army, with the Somerset Light Infantry 7th Bn.. Kinsey sadly lost his life on 16/08/1917, as a result of the War.

 

Kinsey is buried in Sanctuary Wood Cemetery, Belgium, grave reference V. B. 17.

Captain of Holmes' House (Chronicle December 1917)

"left the School only last year as senior sergeant of the Corps, and captain of Holmes' House. He gained his colours in all games, and was specially valuable in the hockey team. After training in an O.C.B. at Oxford, he received a commission in the Somerset Light Infantry. His commanding officer writes that he was killed instantaneously by a bullet while gallantly leading his platoon in the capture of a village. 'He was a very promising young officer, and his loss is deeply mourned by us all.' His death at the age of 19 came as a great shock to the School, where almost everyone remembers him well."

Fine Tribute to Soldiers Who Fought and Fell

Tribute, sincere and heartfelt was paid on Saturday night to young men associated with Trinity Wesleyan Church, Clifton, who died for England and a just cause during the great war. The memorial service embraced the unveiling of a mural tablet and the dedication of a rebuilt organ. The congregation filled the church, and the service was entered into with great earnestness. First, the organ was dedicated by the Rev. T. Ferrier Hulme, and then the Rev. O. S. Watkins, C.M.G., C.B.E., unveiled the tablet which is set in position so that it might be seen from all parts of the building. It is a very beautiful piece of craftsmanship. The central figure, wrought in exquisite colouring, is that of St. George kneeling at the altar, and on either side are names of the fallen – Francis Brian, Hallam Anderson, Frederick Over Bate, Henry Wright Eyre, Edward Leonard Gedye, James Richard Greenway, Henry Arnold Hesegood, Ralph Hosegood, Gilbert Hosegood, Albert Thornley Kinsey, Hubert Thomas Medway, Thomas Raleigh Pearson, and Richard Guy Titley, M.C. The tablet is of glass mosaic enclosed in a bronze frame.
