Son of the late Samuel McGuire, clerk, and Emily McGuire, of 53 Richmond Road, Montpelia. Younger brother of Percival Halse, and Frank. Older brother of Cyril. Percival and Cyril both attended BGS and served in the War. McGuire worked as a Civil Service 2nd Division Clerk before the War.

McGuire was born on 05/05/1888, and attended the School from 1898-1906. He served as a Lance Corporal in the Army, with the London Regiment 2nd/13th (Princess Louisa's Kensington) Bn.. McGuire sadly lost his life on 12/04/1917, as a result of the War.

 

McGuire is buried in Karasouli Military Cemetery, Greece, reference E. 969.

Sleeping in Bivouac

"1898-1906, will be remembered by many as a keen member of the cricket and hockey teams, and a promising musician. He held a post under the Board of Trade since 1908, joined the London Rifle Brigade in 1915 and afterwards the London Regiment. He won a stripe in France in 1916, and was sent to Salonika the following winter. On April 12th last he was killed by a shell while sleeping in bivouac. All accounts agree that he was a most popular N.C.O., and 'like a father' to the men. Fighting was 'not in his line', as he said, but he felt he must be with the rest."
