Son of Hudson Clough Parkinson, assistant to Docks Engineer, and Laura Katherine Parkinson, of Hope Villa, Clifton Wood. Younger brother of Ethel M. Husband of Isabel S. Parkinson (nee Gore), of 20 Royal York Crescent, Clifton. Leslie and Isabel married in the 4th quarter of 1914, shortly before being sent to France with his battalion. Their son was an infant when Parkinson was killed.

Parkinson was born on 26/08/1888, and attended the School from 1899-1902. He served as a Major in the Army, with the Gloucestershire Regiment 1st/4th Bn. (City of Bristol), Territorial Force.  He was awarded the Military Cross. Parkinson sadly lost his life on 24/04/1917, as a result of the War.

 

Parkinson is buried in Sainte Emilie Valley Cemetery, Villers-Faucon, France, reference IV. C. 20.

 

Parkinson was awarded the Military Cross in the New Years Honours List, 1st January 1917, Gazette Issue 29886, page 39.

Major Leslie Gerald Parkinson, M.C. (Gloucestershire Regiment), was killed in action on April 24th.  The gallant officer, who was in his 29th year, was educated at Bristol Grammar School and at Bristol University.  After leaving the University he joined the staff of the Bristol Docks Committee, with whom he remained until the outbreak of the war.  He was a member of the OTC (Senior Division) till 1912, when he received a commission in the Gloucestershire Regiment, and went with his battalion to France in March, 1915.  He married in 1914, and leaves a widow (the daughter of Mr R.L. Gore, od Dorset Villa) and an infant son.  It was announced in the London Gazette of January 1st, 1917, that Major Parkinson had been awarded the Military Cross for general good work and devotion to duty in the field, and the medal was received by the widow from the hands of General Sclater at the ceremony on the Downs in the following July.
