Son of the Rev Edmund Alexander Thomas Lowndes, clerk in Holy Orders, and Annie Lowndes, of 23 Somerset St. Kingsdown. Older brother of Eric and Beryl Lowndes. Eric also attended Bristol Grammar School, and served in the Merchant Navy.

Lowndes was born on 15/06/1899, and attended the School from 1911-1916. He served as a Private in the Army, with the Gloucestershire Regiment "A" Coy. 18th Bn.. Lowndes sadly lost his life on 18/09/1918, as a result of the War.
