Son of Rev Ernest Alfred Phillpotts, clerk in Holy Orders, and Janet Lucy Phillpotts, of 30 Archfield Road, Cotham. Older brother of Alfred Reginald and Eleanor Sibyl.

Phillpotts was born on 30/05/1894, and attended the School from 1903 Sep - Dec. He served as a Lieutenant in the Army, with the Gloucestershire Regiment 7th Bn.. Phillpotts sadly lost his life on 09/08/1915, as a result of the War.

Archivist's Summary

He was identified thanks to a reference to him in Stanley Booker’s letters; he is in the school register, but not on the roll of honour, no doubt because he was at BGS for such a short time.

​

The Street Directories show his father, the Rev Ernest Alfred Phillpotts MA, living in Redland, at 3 Meridian Road, in 1912, and at the Rectory, Stapleton in 1916.

​

The 1911 census lists Fitzroy Charles as his son, aged 16, and also a younger brother Alfred Reginald aged 15 who seems not to have been at BGS.

​

FCP’s probate record, dated 1 Dec 1915, says ‘Fitzroy Charles Phillpotts of the Rectory, Stapleton died at Gallipoli in Turkey on active service’. Administration of the will went to his father, and his effects were valued at £44 14s and 5d.
